PARLIAMENT HILL
Ottawa, Ontario, 1996-2000

Amid the political drama and debate of Parliament Hill, visitors are sometimes overlooked. Over five years, however, Apropos Planning worked with the Library of Parliament and the National Capital Commission to improve services to the public. Our projects include a visitor services strategy, a public programming strategy and visitor services policies, as well as the development of specific interpretive products such as walking tours and discovery carts.

After researching the history of the public uses of Parliament Hill, we wrote the illustrated history Canadians on the Hill.

Our report "A Place for Government, a Place for People" identified many gaps and overlaps in services. The report was implemented by the Senate, House of Commons and the National Capital Commission.

Apropos researched and developed the content for two walking tours: a Confederation-themed tour of the Centre Block and a new tour of the East Block.

We developed these Discovery Carts for Parliament Hill to provide an alternative to guided tours.

Client: Library of Parliament,
National Capital Commission
